So how do you do holidays?

Are you a 'have a wander and find a coffee shop' kind of person? There are plenty of places to do just that.
How about a 'lots of activities' sort of person? With a thriving local surf scene, mountain biking in Dalby Forest, the Cleveland Way just outside the back door, miles of great cycling routes and sea fishing hire in Whitby, boredom will not be an option.
What about a 'if the kids are happy, I'm happy' person? The beaches at Whitby, Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Saltburn will keep children digging and paddling for hours on end. Add to that catching crabs in Whitby harbour, a train ride from Whitby to Goathland, a walk up to Whitby Abbey, a visit to Robin Hood's Bay and a day at Dalby Forest and your stay is full from beginning to end.
Location

As locations go, we think Port Mulgrave is pretty good...
It's wonderfully quiet but has easy access to any number of places and activities. Just a mile or so down the coast is Runswick Bay, a sandy cove ideal for family beach days. A few miles further south brings you to Sandsend with its superb lifeguarded beach whilst a mile or two further and you're in Whitby, home to the famous Whitby Abbey and centre of Goth culture. Just beyond Whitby brings you to Robin Hood's Bay and from there further south to Scarborough.
To the north is Staithes, home to Captain James Cook with a winding steep road down to the narrow harbour. Further north brings you to Saltburn with a vast expanse of beach and the Seaview Restaurant, possibly one of the best fish and chip shops on the East coast in our opinion!
Inland brings the North Yorkshire moors to discover, whilst Dalby Forest needs at least a day to explore.
